How long is Shad program?
In 2020, over 2,400 students applied. Shad normally runs for four weeks in July. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SHAD has been hosted online during the summer of 2020 and the summer of 2021.

Is Shad Canada hard to get into?
Note: Admission into the Shad program is competitive, therefore applicants need to put their best effort forward when completing the application.
How competitive is Shad Canada?
It’s part of a highly competitive, month-long program, hosted by universities across the country. Each year, the Shad program receives about two thousand applications. Half of those students are accepted into the program and are dispersed across 18 university campuses in Canada.
Are there Shad in Canada?
Shad is for students in Grade 10 or 11/ Secondaire IV or V in Quebec. We are looking for students who are community-minded, creative, engaged, curious and want to make an impact in Canada and the world. If that sounds like you, please apply. We’d love to get to know you.
How many students get accepted to Shad Canada?
Each year, the Shad program receives about 2,000 applications. Half of those Grade 10 and 11 students are accepted into the program for a chance to expand on their skills in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM).
What is Shad summer camp?
Shad is Canada’s premier live-in summer enrichment program for high-potential high school students focused on STEAM and entrepreneurship. Participants spend 27 days in July living at one of 19 host university campuses across Canada and engage in transformative, experiential learning.
Is Shad good for university applications?
Yes! SHAD offers a generous amount of bursaries and scholarships for those that live in rural regions or do not have the financial means to participate in the program. Do not let the program fee scare you. Be sure to apply, and then you can work with SHAD as to how much you’d be able to pay.
What did you learn in Shad?
SHAD gives you a community. SHAD surrounds you with individuals who will push you outside your comfort zone, who will teach you to grow and improve yourself whether you like it or not.

Common length for female adult shad is 24.3 in and common length for male adult shad is 19.7 inches. The maximum reported length for an American shad is 29.9 inches. The American shad’s body is blue or green in color along the top of its body with silvery sides.

In early autumn, most juveniles leave the Bay for the ocean, where they remain for several years before returning to freshwater rivers to spawn. Outside of spawning season, shad can be found in the coastal areas of the Atlantic and Pacific ocean. American shad live six to 10 years.

What is good about Shad?
Shad provides an educational structure, access to academic mentors and leaders, a safe environment to explore, and a diverse and open community to thrive in. Like any educational activity, outcomes at Shad are best met when students are engaged and committed to the entire program.
How do you fish for American shad?
The best bait for American shad are small, artificial lures including jigs, spinners, spoons and similar lures. Shiny or brightly colored lures work best, although shad also are known to bite a shiny bare hook, especially attached to a swivel to give it some swaying action.

How do you cook shad?
To cook the shad, dust with the flour. Heat the oil in a large frying pan that will hold the pieces in a single. Cook for 4-5 minutes each side or until opaque all through. To serve, reheat the red lentil dhall and spoon a portion onto each of 4 warmed plates.
