Where Should Your Weight Be When Skating?

When skating forward, you want your weight toward the back of the blade, around your heel. Going backward, your weight will shift slightly forward, and will be right behind the ball of your foot.

Where do you put weight when skating?

Keep your weight slightly toward the front of your skate blade. Keeping your weight directly centered means you’ll be at risk of rocking too far either direction. Getting too far back on your blades will cause your skates to turn, not shave the ice and stop.

Where should your weight be when skating backwards?
